Women's 14K Gold & Diamonds Rolex Watch

Vintage Worn & Stored Estate Watch

Needs Cleaned, Polished, a New Band and Maybe Some Additional Love and Care

Recent estate find. The watch itself measures approximately 5/8” wide, including the crown. The back of the case is marked 14K. The inside of the backing is marked Rolex. The dial is marked Rolex and has the emblem. The crown has the Rolex emblem as well. The movement is marked Rolex, 1400 Montres, and 17 Jewels.

There are two diamonds. I am not a jeweler, but my gauge helped me determine that they are approximately .10ct each, maybe a little smaller. I studied both stones with a magnifying loupe, and the diamonds look to be in excellent condition. I noticed the settings were just a bit dirty in the tight spots.

I have tested this watch twice over the past week. Both times, I set the time, wound the watch a bit and it started to tick. I came back a few hours later, and the watch was still ticking and had seemingly kept accurate time. I have no idea when this movement was last cleaned and/or serviced. It’s possible that it has been quite a long time, so though the watch is currently ticking, I cannot attest to how accurate or well the watch will work in the long run. This watch may need to be cleaned and/or serviced sooner rather than later.

I know this dandy of a watch is an investment piece, but I am not a jeweler, nor do I know how to service watches, so any future cleaning or services to this watch will have to be done by one of your local jewelers.

The watch band itself isn’t anything special. It’s a generic Speidel gold filled bracelet. I left the band on, because it looks OK and does the job, but I think you will probably want to replace it with something nicer. This band is well worn and dulled (lots of loss to some of the surface), probably still a little dirty in the tight spots, and just not of the same quality as the watch. It may also be stretched out a bit.

The case has a truly nasty amount of scratching, dullness and pitting. This wear is most ugly when reviewed with a magnifier and bright light. I don’t think it is anything too far beyond what you would expect with a vintage estate watch that has been well worn and stored, but it’s definitely a condition concern that you need to take into consideration when bidding.

A couple of the scratches to the case are more prominent or deeper.

There’s some minor wear to the lip on the backing from the watch being opened.

I wiped the gold done a little with a polishing cloth, but it’s still tarnished (discoloration, especially around the crown area). You are going to want to give the case a detailing cleaning and polish.

The crown is worn and dulled with related surface wear.

The crystal looks great with minimal wear. After doing some research, it looks like the crystal is original, but I could be wrong.

There’s some dirtiness on the underside of the crown and around the stem area. I made no attempts to clean this minor amount of greenish dirtiness. Is the stem maybe a little crooked? I don’t know.

The dial has a minor amount of spotting and related discoloration, and there is a scratch line of sort on the left outside edge that goes in a curve from 7 o’clock to 9 o’clock (can only be seen when the movement is removed from the case). With a magnifying loupe, I could also recognize that the dial is a little dusty.

I noticed that the movement sits somewhat crooked in the backing. The left side rests a little higher than the right side. It’s a little tricky to get the movement in and out of the backing. I don’t know how normal any of this may be, but I think this is why there is a scratch or pressure line of sort on the left side of the dial. There is probably additional pressure on that side of the dial when you put the watch back together. I could be wrong.

Please help me out by closely reviewing the pics to best judge what you are bidding on.

The inside circumference of the bracelet measures approximately 5.75”. Please remember that I am offering the watch with the mindset that this vintage stretch band needs to be replaced.
