If they
collide hard with each other, or collide hard against any object, they
will most likely break. Those neodymium magnets are very difficult to
pull apart due to their strength.
Neodymium magnets are composed of three elements - neodymium, iron and boron in ratio 2:14:1
and
are sometimes known as NIB (or chemically NdFeB) magnets. They are also
called rare earth magnets, as neodymium contained in them is one of the
rare earth elements (these are often found together in ore deposits and
despite their name are relatively abundant in the Earth’s crust).
Neodymium magnets are strongest commercially available magnets and can hold about 1000 times of their own weight. They are 10 times more effective than usual magnets. They have many uses in different industries and their commercial use is ever increasing due to their main property - they are much lighter and much stronger than what we have known until recently.
How can you use these magnets? Here are some examples how people have used them. Their main advantage is their low weight and size,
can be easily carried around and are very practical. They are
relatively cheap and you can have at home several of them in different
sizes for different uses.
● as metal detectors - find studs, nails in the wall, nails under your flooring or nail/needle you dropped
● fridge magnets
● holding things in place - tool holder, holding down covers for machinery or cars, hold down things which need to be glued or welded
● use a pair as clip on earrings, jewellery, name tags, clasps
● as oil filters - remove iron and metal chips from oils
● clean metal debris from the workshop surface

Safety with Neodymium Magnets Due to their wonderful strong
magnetic properties, these magnets can be dangerous. Small magnets, which are commercially available most of the time, are especially
dangerous around small children. If they are swallowed, they can block
respiratory and digestive tract. Larger magnets, about the size of your
palm, will affect anything magnetic or electronic in their
vicinity/room, including wiping off information on magnetic strip cards
(as your credit card). To be aware of the potential hazardous of
these otherwise wonderful helpers, is therefore very important. Please
be aware of strong magnetic bonding power of larger neodymium magnets.
