Super comfortable vintage 1960's Circle Y of Yoakum Texas Saddle. Fully Tooled Wild Rose Pattern. Semi Quarter Bars; 6-5/8" Gullet; 28" Skirt. There is a Model number stamped near the back billet slot that reads: SP 64 634. The SP meant 'Special Purpose' meaning it was a custom made to order saddle. I believe the 64 may have been the year it was made: 1964. This saddle came from an elderly lady's estate in which she had many vintage western items from the 60s and this was her saddle. It has a 15" seat. A perfect size for a young man or lady. The smooth leather seat is very lovely with a pretty star and heart stitch pattern design and padded at the front. There are four sterling silver conchos. There is one concho that is slightly dented - see photo. The leather tooling looks like a rose pattern. There is some old saddle soap still in some of the crevices of the tooling that I think with determination and time someone could clean out. On the pommel is a string that would carry a lariat rope and attach to the horn. The concho strings are all long and intact. The stirrup leathers show a bit of typical rub wear and they have the same tooling pattern as the rest of the saddle so they are original. I had the fleece on this saddle completely replaced with real sheepskin fleece by a professional. Circle Y saddles from 30 or 50 years ago are great vintage saddles to shop for as they are extremely well made with quality leather and hardware materials. The leather on this saddle just feels like thick, supple, quality leather. The hardware on the rigging is brass, not the typical stainless you see on newer saddles. This saddle is a true classic from the 60s that I hope someone will treasure and enjoy for many more years to come.
Circle Y started saddle manufacturing in 1960 in the small Texas town of Yoakum. Still located there, Circle Y continues to produce high quality saddles and tack with the heritage and tradition the company was founded on.
