Gatcombe Antiques & Collectables

A very attractive early 20th century French mahogany, 8 day movement, balloon clock with inlaid satin wood stringing and a shell motif to the front. It has an enclosed circular dial with a brass surround, a white ceramic face with Roman numerals, and red Arabic numerals at each quarter. It is inscribed with "Exd by W J Jago, St Albans".

It stands on four brass bun feet. The back plate lifts out and there is a small lever in the back, to adjust the time speed. It has the original two ended key, one end to move the hands and the other to wind it up.

It has been sympathetically cleaned and serviced and given a traditional bees wax finish. I have had it for a couple of weeks and it has a pleasant tick and keeps very good time. The clock is in excellent, clean condition for its age. There are a few barely noticeable, tiny 1mm marks to the glass face (see photo) The measurements are: 15 cm wide, 9 cm deep and stands 22 cm high.
