This is an entire show from London in 1968 by the original-and in the opinion of many, the best-incarnation of the Mothers of Invention. In the liner notes,FZ says that this is "a fair-not outstanding" show.
I beg to differ. As there's hardly any officially released live material by MOI Mk.1-some of YCDTOSA Vol.1 and 5,some of "Weasels" and "The Ark" from "Beat The Boots"-there isn't much to compare it to,but it's great. It consists of a play, loosely based on the then-recent ban on contraception by Pope Paul VI.This is funny and there's some good music, but it is of it's time and very dated. The second half of the CD is a completely instrumental set, showing the original MOI in all their glory. The highlight is the complete "Orange County Lumber Truck" but the versions of "Oh No","King Kong" and "Sleeping In A Jar" are pretty tasty too.
If you're interested in the original MOI,this is well worth having. If you're totally new to FZ's music of the late 1960s,get "Uncle Meat","We're Only In It For The Money" or "Burnt Weeny Sandwich" first-then get this!!
