With his '60's career on the wane, in 1970, Cliff Bennett, of Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rouser's fame, formed a band with Gods keyboard player, Ken Hensley, and their drummer, Bournemouth's Lee Kerslake (ELP's Greg Lake was also with The Gods at one time, too). The band chose the awful, yet memorable name of Toe Fat.
The album is typical of the 'progressive rock' scene band's were getting into, using keyboards to pull the music scene away from what was becoming regarded as the 'old fashioned 3-piece line-up' made famous by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Cream, as they had become regarded as 'boring.'
Toe Fat did likewise, and Hensley's Hammond sings beautifully here, as it did later during the fantastic years he spent with Uriah Heep in their 'Magician's Birthday' / 'Demon's & Wizard's' era. This was the groundwork for those amazing albums, and Heep fans would do well to grab this and 'TF II' to enjoy as the forerunner's to Heeps' finest hours!
The 'Bad Side Of The Moon' track was written by Elton John, and was an early B-side for Toe Fat.
Later, the 2nd LP, titled imaginatively, 'Toe Fat II,' featured John Glasscock on bass, who went on to work with Jethro Tull.
The sleeve design was an early work from Hipgnosis, (who later produced many of Pink Floyd's most memorable album covers), although the topless female in the background was airbrushed into a male for the more staid American market.
