NIKON NIKKOR UD 20mm - 1971 - EXCELLENT!

**A LOVELY EXAMPLE OF THIS SPECTACULAR ULTRA WIDE**

A very nice example of this classic ultrawide lens from the golden age of Nikon, offered in lovely original condition, complete with caps!

There's something about Nikon equipment, you pick it up and you're instantly aware of the seminal images of our lifetime,captured by this wonderful, cherished equipment. Never is this more apparent than when looking at a gorgeous, Pro level piece of kit such as this.

A very rare 1971 20mm f3.5 UD Nikkor ultrawide, offered in excellent original condition. This spectacular eleven element juggernaught was conceived to be Nikon's widest non fisheye for general use and the capabilities of this lens have to be experienced at least once. Even at wide open aperture, everything is in uncanny focus, while straight lines remain straight even at the centre of the lens. A superb performer, wrapped up in that legendary 1960s Nikkor build quality and producing images with that indescribable vintage Je Ne Ce Qois! This example has the Pre AI F mount, so will work with any Nikon body up to around 1980, as well as the Current Nikon Df, interestingly, it can be used with a cheap adapter on Micro Four Thirds, Fuji X, Sony Nex and even the fabulous full frame Sony A7 range. Each combination offering a unique symbiosis of old and new for both stills and video!

The vast, wide front element is perfectly clear, with no scratches or flaws and amazingly, no internal dust that I can see holding the lens up to daylight. The focus and aperture rings move as smoothly as you would hope from a Nikon lens. The barrel bears only light marks from 45 years of use on those famously prone scalloped focus and aperture rings, far less than one would usually expect. There is a slight mark on the rear element, but this has not appeared in any of my test shots. The lens looks amazing on any camera you attach it to, bearing that timelessly sexy 1960s aesthetic, the barrel dark and brooding, while those massive optics bear a gorgeous bluey, magenta coating which shimmers in the light.

I love shooting with ultrawides, they put a world to your eye which is utterly unique. In the past, I have used various examples of this model for Landscapes, architecture and even portraiture, all to great effect, usually with the aperture wide open and the focus static, the depth of field is so wide that unless you are going very close, you never need touch the focus ring.

So there you have it, A very rare opportunity to acquire a very desirable, classic, professional level ultrawide lens in near new condition, which has been updated correctly and as a result, remains as stunning on compatible digitals as it was on film way back in 1971.

Of course, equipment of this vintage takes us well into the realm of the collectible, so it may well be possible to buy this lens, enjoy it, and part with it in the future for the same or more than you paid for it, making it effectively free!
