Antique unused 1920's Art Nouveau, Art Deco face powder in original decorative cardboard box.

"Three Flowers Face Powder" by Richard Hudnut, New York, Paris. This is a sealed unopened powder in the orange and gold decorated box with pictorial lid and green accents along the sides.

This box measures 1" high and 1 5/8" across [2.5cm x 4cm]. The lid lifts off to show seal still in place. There are very small cracks part way across the top, otherwise there is very little aging and fading, very good condition. [ofpfd]

Advertisement on the back reads "Naturelle Three Flowers Face Powder, Clings tenaciously to the skin and gives that youthful bloom so universally admired. It has won a lasting popularity with women of cultured and discriminating taste. Will you not test for yourself the merits of this superb powder by using this sample?"

Richard Hudnut introduced the "Three Flowers" perfume brand in 1915, and it remained popular through 1920s.

Richard Hudnut’s legacy is based on his creation of perfumery and cosmetics of notable quality, which were presented in distinctively decorated, and packaged containers. These beautiful and artful containers made Richard Hudnut perfumes and cosmetics still very collectible today.

Book Print Terminology

EDITION:

1. The published form of a literary work.

2. The number of copies, as of a book or newspaper, printed at one time or at several times from plates substantially UNALTERED.

Only the print from the SUBSTANTIALLY ALTERED PLATES indicates a new edition.

PRINTING:

One run during the production of a book. In many cases single prints are indicated by the date of printing on the title page. The modern books have a bar-code on the copyright page indicating the printing ("1" is present in bar-code) or "A" or stated "first printing").

For example all later printings of a First Edition are still a "First Edition".

STATE:

Small changes in the plates, like correcting the errors, broken types or taking out an illustration during the printing process, result in small differences. Different states can be still parts of one printing. Normally the early states have a very high catalog value.

ISSUE:

The amount of produced books, or newspaper, etc. during one edition or printing.
