Working with Punched Metal Strip

This strip is manufactured from Mild Steel, which is much easier to work than stainless steel strip.

It can be cut and bent using only hand tools, no power tools being necessary.

CUTTING. The strip is first measured for length and marked with a fine felt tip pen. It is then cut with either a pair of tin snips or a small hacksaw. If possible cut through the centre of one of the holes, it is easier that way.

BENDING. For curves the strip can easily be bent by hand to fit round some object it is to be fixed to.

For right angled bends or other sharp bends, mark the position of the bend on the strip and clamp in a vice at this position. The strip is first pushed over by hand and then given a few taps with a hammer to give a sharp bend.

Be careful when working with strip as the edges can be quite sharp.
