This extraordinary, highly sought, very rare, and original release piece, appears in the Royal Doulton series Under the Greenwood Tree. This is the large jardinière planter, which offers a wonderful pictorial of the special moment when Friar Tuck joins Robin and his Merry Men. It even includes the illustration The Fall of an Arrow.  Inside the rim is the hand painted inscription: "The Jovial Friar Joins Robin Hood" and on the reverse side the inscription reads: "Robin Hood the King of Archers". As customary with fine porcelain production, this was a series limited to the number of years Royal Doulton produced this pattern beginning in 1914, as well as limiting the production of individual pieces  over the years, until it was permanently retired in 1967. Mind you - this jardinière has survived 2 World Wars in Great Britain - a remarkable feat itself. But sadly a wound was sustained: see photo # 8...  and so it appeared when it was purchased from an antiques store in London in 1970. It could be easily repaired since it originates on the rim; and is approximately 5" long. The colors are bold and bright, and there is a delicate all-over crazing. There are zero chips, nicks, repairs etc. anywhere else on this lovely piece.  I provide a multitude of shipping options as well.
