Offered for your consideration is a vintage 6½ inch Alnico magnet woofer made by Electro-Voice for their EIGHT A speakers, c.1970. I had initially thought that the "806-6429" appearing on the magnet cover was an indecipherable EIA source/date code, but a very knowledgeable member informed me that it is an Electro-Voice product number.

After months of not being able to figure out what model E-V speaker it was from, it finally came to me.  The answer was in my digital image files all along—I had sold two pairs of the Electro-Voice EIGHT A speakers in 2013 and this is the exact same 6½” Alnico magnet woofer they had. It’s possible this driver was used in other E-V speakers from this era as well?

Anyways, please have a look at the large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this capable mid/bass woofer is correct for your needs.

This woofer is in good condition. The sturdy textured paper cone is structurally flawless and so is the voice coil dustcap. Also, the surround is permanent textile material instead of the fragile foam that would come into widespread use a few years later. And, the anodized steel basket has no dents or noteworthy scratches but has a good deal of whitish oxidation as pictured. Plus, the large magnet cover has vented side dust shields which add a nice touch. Lastly, the +/- terminals are keyed for polarity (red terminal gasket = positive), and have never been soldered on the spades.

Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds great with clear, fast midrange and good low end for the platform size. Plus, DC resistance tested at 5.3Ω consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket measures 6⅝” diameter, it stands roughly 3⅜” tall (including the raised surround ‘roll’), and the mounting holes are spaced 4 5/16” adjacent / 6⅛” diagonal apart, c-t-c.

As pictured and described, this vintage Electro-Voice 6½” Alnico magnet woofer is offered at a competitive price.
