Relisted  item--previous buyer could not complete sale.  Natalia Gontcharova (Goncharova), huge oil on canvas, Approx. 22x31, upstretched, though evidence of previous mounting there. Two-sided portraits, one looking somewhat unfinished, though she signs it. The other side is a bearded gentleman. Canvas is in fair condition, with much edge wear, lot of paint loss, discoloration and craquelure, mainly from how it was rolled years back. Still, properly framed, it can be a dramatic piece by the preeminent Russian avant-garde artist. Natalia Sergeevna Goncharova was a Russian avant-garde artist, painter, costume designer, writer, illustrator, and set designer. Born: June 21, 1881, Tula Governorate Died: October 17, 1962, Paris Please note: NO International Sales. Sorry. Too many hours settling problems at the post office. Sorry. Payment in 3 days or risk cancellation. Thank you. I will combine postage and shipping.   I am downsizing my considerable art collection. I will be offering many examples of Russian Avant garde art, as well as some art from the COBRA movement. There will also be art from New England artists, particularly Connecticut artists, as well as some other American artists, mostly modern. These pieces were collected over many years, bought from online sources, including Live Auctioneers, etc., as well as local auctions and other venues. Many were acquired starting in the 1990s in Hungary (Pecs, Budapest) Croatia (Zagreb) Jerusalem, Israel, and what was once Leningrad, Soviet Union (now Russian Federation’s ST. Petersburg).   I have no (or little) provenance for most pieces, given the manner in which they were bought. In cases where there is documentation (gallery labels, etc.,) that fact will be noted. As per EBay rules, this art is presented in the manner of an artist whose name appears on the canvas. Works are thus attributed. For this reason, starting prices tend to be low and reasonable.   I am unable to do my own packing and shipping and trips to post office. Therefore, that task is outsourced, a fact that may delay a buyer receiving package after a two or three day delay. Hopefully not. I am assured that shipment begins the day after payment is made.   The Russian avant-garde was a large, influential wave of modern art that flourished in the Russian Empire and Soviet Union, approximately 1890 to 1930. The term covers many separate, but inextricably related, art movements; namely Suprematism, Constructivism, Russian Futurism, Cubo-Futurism. Many avant-garde artists involved were born or grew up in what is present day Belarus and Ukraine (including Kazimir Malevich, Aleksandra Ekster, Vladimir Tatlin, Wassily Kandinsky, David Burliuk, Alexander Archipenko). The Russian avant-garde reached its creative and popular height in the period between the Russian Revolution of 1917 and 1932, at which point the ideas of the avant-garde clashed with the newly emerged state-sponsored direction of Realism.
