Offered for your consideration is one 8” x 6” Alnico magnet woofer removed from a HECO TL 21 Stereo loudspeaker, made in Germany. This capable mid/bass driver was manufactured for HECO by Deutsche Edelstahlwerke (DEW) Magnetfabrik Dortmund in October, 1959 and may also be suitable for many other European speakers and stereo consoles from this era. So, please have a look at the large photos, measurements, and read the remaining description to decide if this outstanding vintage speaker is suitable for your needs.

This woofer is in clean, excellent condition. It features a flawless sturdy paper cone with integral suspension and flawless, dimple-free voice coil dustcap. Plus, the galvanized steel basket is in great shape with no dings or scratches—still very shiny—and the dense felt flange gasket and attractive red plastic DEW-signed magnet cover are structurally perfect as well. Lastly, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity (red dot = positive) and I’ve left several inches of input wire in place for the new owner’s convenience in retrofitting to their speaker. Overall, this old German woofer is exceptionally well preserved!

Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds terrific with clear, detailed midrange and solid low-end for the platform size. Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 4.5Ω, consistent with a nominal 5 ohm system rating. And, the basket measures 8⅜” x 6”, stands 2⅞” tall, and the mount holes are spaced 4 13/16” short way, 7 3/16” long way, and 8⅝” apart diagonal, c-t-c.

This is a nice find if a woofer in your suitable vintage German system is blown or damaged and will have it sounding its best again in short order. It’d also make a nice choice in a speaker project for tube amp or modest powered solid state applications! So, as pictured and described, this remarkable HECO-DEW Alnico magnet woofer is offered at a competitive price.
