There's something about Nikon equipment, you pick it up and you're instantly aware of the seminal images of our lifetime,captured by this wonderful, cherished equipment. Never is this more apparent than when looking at a Pro level period piece of kit such as this.
The Nikkor Q 200mm is a classic lens, the preeminent medium telephoto offered in the F system, this version was produced for just over one year, 1969-71. This was Nikons' most favoured telephoto of the day, offering an incredible balance of performance and weight. It was also the longest Nikkor lens to accept standard 52mm filters, making it a straightforward fit into any Nikon system without forcing the purchase of any new accessories.
Contemporary to the seminal Nikon F and F2 SLRs, this lovely lens is F Mount, and has also been converted with the official Nikon kit to AI. This makes it compatible with every Nikon SLR and DSLR made from 1959 to today, including the marvelous new DF and is an ideal companion to any of the Nikon bodies for sale in my other auctions. I have trialled it on my D7000, and it has not failed to impress. As well as Nikon Bodies, with the appropriate adapter, this lens will perform just as well on the new Sony A7 and A7r, Canon DSLRs Micro Four Thirds, Sony NEX and Samsung NX bodies, as well as Nikons own Mirrorless 1 range.
The proper Nikkor AI conversion kit has been unavailable for many years, and properly converted examples are becoming more and more rare in any condition, so this lens really is one to grab while you can!.
The lens is in good used condition, having obviously been carefully looked after. That fabulous front optic is spotlessly clear, as you can hopefully see in the pictures, and the focus and aperture rings move as smoothly as you would hope from a Nikon lens. Holding the lens up to daylight, there are a few motes visible, but nothing which would ever trouble your final image..
The barrel bears the usual usage marks, but perhaps less than would be expected from a 44 year old lens, even the ever prone black finish of that gorgeous scalloped focus ring, is worn less than usual. The built in hood slides out smoothly and clicks home and recedes with no problem. It does not move when parked.
