You’ll be hard pressed to find a nicer example of this Philco classic; the absolutely stunning 1940 model 40-150 featuring a gorgeous walnut cabinet, waterfall top with slant front, bright slide rule dial, automatic pushbutton tuning, loop antenna, and excellent performance on both the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet: The dark walnut cabinet is simply stunning. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set with burl grain trim and blonde inlays on the edges. The waterfall top design, coupled with the slant front, makes for a unique yet elegant look. It all comes together magnificently when powered on and the slide rule dial shines nice and bright while the red pushbuttons emit a ruby glow. Jet black trim and claw feet finish the cabinet off perfectly. You’ll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office.

Dial/Knobs: The slide rule dial is quite the eye catcher. It lights nice and bright and features three scales (SW, Police, and AM) with country and city names at the top for shortwave reference. All letters and numbers on the glass dial are legible and show little signs of wear. The surrounding gold escutcheon is in great shape and adds an elegant touch. All eight red pushbuttons are perfect and emit a ruby red glow when powered on. Quite an impressive sight, especially in a dimly lit room. The far right pushbutton engages the manual tuning which is recommended due to the age and delicacy of the pushbutton tuning mechanism. All four knobs are in excellent condition and work as follows; on/off & tone, volume, band switch, and tuning.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a yellow gold color with a miniature square design. This grill cloth can also be purchased separately on our other eBay auctions.

Call Letter Tabs: The station call letter tabs are quality reproductions done on a heavy card stock for durability and original look. These call tabs can also be purchased separately on our other eBay auctions.

Electronics/Chassis: All tubes in the powerful 7 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The radio performs extremely well. I'm able to pick up many stations, near and far, with beautiful tone and plenty of volume on both the AM broadcast and shortwave bands using just the loop antenna.

The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.

I sell quality antique radios and describe them accurately, as can be confirmed with my outstanding feedback. I have sold many sets to my valued customers, museums, high profile businesses, and as TV/Movie props. All have been extremely pleased, so bid with confidence.

My radios are expertly packed using oversized boxes, many layers of bubble wrap, and several inches of packing peanuts surrounding each side of the radio so you can be assured they arrive safely. USPS economy is my default shipping method to save on shipping charges. USPS Priority or UPS can be requested at a higher rate.

Policies / Warranty: We offer a 14 day money back guarantee (buyer pays return shipping with professional packing) if the radio has been grossly misrepresented. Our radios are accurately described and in working order when shipped out. In rare instances however, as with any vintage electronics, minor problems can occur during shipment due to the age and delicacy of antique radio parts. If your radio arrives and does not work please let us know. We will gladly walk you through the process of troubleshooting to get it started. If that fails to correct the problem we will pay for return shipping to us, diagnose and fix the problem, and return the radio to you. We also offer a 30 day warranty on all the tubes, capacitors, resistors, and filters. Due to the design of some antique radio parts we cannot warranty transformers, coils, tuners, and speakers. However, if at any time these parts would happen to fail, we will assist in repairing or replacing the defective part at minimal cost. Finally, in very rare instances, if there is shipping damage a USPS insurance claim request must be made to me from the buyer immediately upon receipt of the radio. A USPS inspection of the radio, boxes, and all packing materials is required. The refund will be issued upon USPS approval and payment of the insurance claim.

If you have any questions please email me and I will answer in a timely manner.

International Bidders: This auction is open to international bidders however I ask that you email me prior to bidding for a shipping cost quote. International bidders please be aware that USPS will not fully insure shipments to some countries. If that is the case with your country, you assume the risk of any damage or undelivered package. Also, please be aware of your country’s customs policies, handling times, charges, and duty taxes. These regulations are out of my control and the responsibility of the buyer.

Antique tube radio reception can differ greatly depending on location, length of antenna, and amount of interference in different areas. Playing capability is accurately described based on my location, surroundings, and hooked up to a 12’ copper line antenna. The antenna will be included with the sale but I cannot guarantee reception quality in your area. It may differ (better or worse) depending on your location, surroundings, and interference. Antique Radio Electronics, whether restored or un-restored, are by nature hazardous due to their voltage, design and age. Any operation, repairs or other adjustments are done at your own risk.
