Truetone 1937 Table Top Tube Radio Model D-723

Beautiful Exterior ~ Receives Several Stations

 

Offered today for your review is a Beautiful 1937 Truetone AM/Short-wave/Police Bands Radio Model D-723.

 

This receiver was acquired from the estate of a "Silent key" Ham Radio Operator and has been stored in a controlled environment. Smoke free / Pet free home.

 

Truetone was the Western Auto Store house brand radio. This floral motif set is made of American Walnut veneer; book matched in the center, and it retains the original knobs. The receiver is a seven tube, three-band (AM, Shortwave and now obsolete Police Band).

 

This is a Very nice Truetone model D-723 which is built like a tank and about as heavy measuring 20"L x 11"W x 9"H. The case is in Extraordinary Condition with a Magnificent

multi-color tuning dial!

 

After a 1 minute warm up I was able to receive several stations loud and clear.

The radio should probably be serviced, as there is a little static heard when some of the knobs are jiggled. The tuning dial works and has full travel left to right, but is a little sluggish at a couple spots so the drive cord is in need of adjustment to get it perfect. An easy fix for those handy in this area.

 

Interestingly, the radio also comes with a homebrew antenna that mounts on the back, which Definitely Improves Reception. This is not a stock accessory for this radio and was probably crafted by the owner.

 

A Very Nice Radio guaranteed not to be DOA as I wanted to offer this old timer in its original as-found condition.

 

This Radio would make a Great addition to any Vintage Collection.
