The quill measures approximately 30cm in length and has been hand-crafted in Florence, Italy. The set comes packaged in an attractive presentation gift box as shown. A Little History About Writing ...

The first evidence of written language goes back 5000 years to the people of Mesopotamia, Babylon, Egypt and China who used various materials such as clay tablets, wax tablets, papyrus scrolls – some up to 40 metres long – and inks made from pigments derived from plants and other organic sources. The writing implements themselves were made from animal bone, bamboo, and similar materials.

The goose quill which appeared around the 5th and 6th century was introduced by monks and gave rise to the first books of western civilisation. The use of the quill allowed for a cursive adaptable style of writing which in turn gave birth to calligraphy – the art of beautiful writing known to us today. Around the middle of the 18th century the first metal nibs were being produced in England for mass consumption. The development of humankind owes a vast debt to our ability to write and therefore create a lasting repository of human knowledge …

Payment must be received within 7 days unless otherwise arranged prior to purchasing.

Australian Buyers: I accept payment via Direct Bank Deposit, PayPal (Visa and Mastercard both accepted), or Australia Post money order. Local pick up from Ballarat is also welcome, although please contact me prior to purchase to ensure a convenient time can be arranged.

International Buyers: Payment using PayPal is preferred and must be made in Australian dollars (Visa and Mastercard both accepted). International money orders and bank deposits must also be made in Australian dollars as I cannot accept overseas money orders drawn in a foreign (non AU$) currency. Please note, it is advisable to find out what fees might be charged by your bank or financial services provider for sending international money orders or telegraphic transfers.

Shipping Information: Costs and options are detailed in the relevant tab at the top of the listing description. I am more than happy to combine shipping on purchases within a 5 day period and postage discounts will be applied automatically when you go through Checkout. Alternatively, you may request an Invoice. All items will be shipped within 3 business days of receiving payment and I will email to advise once your package is on its way. Express Post packages will always be sent within 1 business day - guaranteed!

Returns & Refunds: I will cheerfully offer either a replacement or full refund if the item you receive is faulty, damaged or different than described. As refunds and replacements may require the return of the item and its original packaging within 30 days, please contact me straight away if there is any problem with your purchase. Naturally, in the case of faulty, damaged or incorrect items, your return postage costs will also be fully refunded. If you wish to return an item for any other reason, then exchanges or refunds of the purchase price only (excluding shipping) will be offered when items are returned unworn, undamaged and/or unused, with any tags still attached and original packaging intact, at the buyer's own expense within 30 days. Please do not return any item without first contacting me, as special instructions may be required.
