Note: According to the serial numbers, these units were manufactured in 2013. The 'about this mac' page shows the year the model was originally released. The specific serial number of the unit reveals the month and year or manufacture.
Unit is upgraded with Hynix, Samsung, or Micron memory, the same manufacturers Apple uses in their factory.
The units come with a fresh install of Mavericks 10.9 operating system. Upon
request, Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion 10.7, Mountain Lion 10.8, or Yosemite 10.10 can be installed instead.
Cosmetically, the units are in great condition. They may have very light scratches or scuffs on the case. 8.5/10
The units came very clean on the inside; indicating they are lightly used. They came out of production from a non-smoking, well
ventilated facility. 9/10.
Functionally, the units are perfect, performing smooth and quick. 10/10
The benchmarks scores of the units were acquired with Geekbench 3, the gold standard benchmark software for Macs. The cylinder 12-core that retails about $7k has a average benchmark of 32,500. This unit has a benchmark of about 30,500 and costs half the price.
Pro Tools 10/11 users - this unit is an excellent choice because going from a 8-core 2.4GHz to a 12-core 3.33GHz will reduce CPU usage (shown on the PT system usage monitor) by 30%. There will not be lag if you have a bunch of tracks and a ton of plug-ins. A nice possible upgrade will be going to a solid-state drive as your system drive and having a standard hard drive for your sounds/data. Maybe a 3rd drive devoted to recording to.
Adobe / Final Cut users - this is an excellent system because of the high benchmark score. Increasing RAM will help with reducing rendering times. I highly recommend a upgraded graphics card. The ATI 5770 is not performance oriented.
