The solar panel included in this kit is made of back-contact solar cells - the newest generation of solar cells which have significantly higher efficiency compared to standard solar cells (extracting more sunlight energy from the same area). Back-contact solar cells used in this solar panel have unparalleled efficiency up to 22% (!) making this solar panel the most efficient in its kind, and the smallest out of all solar panels with the same wattage commercially available in the world. Solar cells used in this panel have been made by the leading US solar manufacturer SunPower, using the newest production equipment and cutting edge technology. If you would like to know more about the benefits of back-contact solar cells compared to regular front-and-back contact solar cells, check our article Introduction to back-contact solar cells. This 120W flexible solar panel is made of strong ETFE material which has a longer service life compared to standard semi-flexible solar panels. As a result, these particular flexible solar panels are extremely robust and less prone to cracking , delamination and corrosion. The lightly textured coating of this panel creates an anti-reflective surface which allows the panel to absorb a far greater amount of light, thereby increasing efficiency. ETFE material has long been used in applications where durability and high-temperature resistance is required, such as in the Eden Project, Cornwall. You can read more about ETFE and its benefits here.

Features and benefits of this kit include:
- Flexible design makes it ideal for curved roofs and surfaces where bonding is preferable (though the panel can also be fixed by bolts or screws) The panel is fitted with 2 x 0.9m of cable with MC4 connectors at the end which simply plug into the 5m extension solar cable supplied with the kit, to join the solar panel and the charge controller. The kit also includes 5m 4.0mm dual core battery cable for use between the solar charge controller and your battery, making the total cable distance between the solar panel and the battery 0.9m + 5m + 5m = 11m. The panel can either be bonded to the roof using a suitable adhesive (not included, but can easily be found in DIY shops) or fixed using self-tapping screws.
Solar panel specifications:
The 10A 12V / 24V solar charge controller included in this kit uses the most advanced Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology to track the maximum power voltage point of connected solar panels as it varies depending on sunlight exposure and temperature. This technology ensures the maximum efficiency of your solar system and significantly outperforms standard PWM solar controllers. This charge controller features a comprehensive set of electronic protection functions to ensure the maximum possible efficiency of your solar system. These include: reverse current prevention at night (from the battery back to the solar panel), automatic cut off to prevent over-charging and deep discharge, solar panel over voltage, over load, short circuit and reverse polarity protection. The controller also has self-diagnostic capability and highlights any system errors using advanced fault-targeting technology. The built-in LCD screen shows real-time charging parameters such as voltage, current (separately for solar panel / load), battery state of charge, accumulated charge and discharge energy. Easy-to-use buttons allow the user to program load settings (e.g. set timers for lighting, fans, pumps etc). The MPPT solar charge controller in the kit can charge sealed, gel and flooded lead acid batteries. Multiple connectivity options This solar charge controller also features advanced communication technology, which offers the user the opportunity to monitor and program parameters for the solar charge controller through various methods: 1) The controller can be connected to a remote meter MT50 with an LCD screen, which displays system performance information and allows the user to manually adjust parameters and load settings 2) The controller can be connected to a Wi-Fi module to create a Wi-Fi network, to which your mobile phone or tablet can connect, in order to monitor or adjust charging parameters and controller settings through a free mobile app - Solar Station Monitor (Android-based phones and tablets only). 3) An RJ45 to USB cable can be used to connect the controller directly to your PC / laptop, where parameters and settings can be monitored and adjusted via a free computer program - Solar Station (Windows-based PCs and laptops only). Using one of these communication methods, the user will gain access not only to the standard charging parameters already shown via the built-in LCD screen, but also additional information such as min/max voltages, temperature, protection cut off voltages, diagnostics and other information. If required the user will also be able to amend the battery capacity, set charging volts for different charging stages, specify the duration of each charging stage, create a user-defined battery type with charging parameters specific to their battery (if the pre-existing options are unsuitable), and more. In addition to the built-in temperature sensor and intelligent heat-dissipating design of this controller, there is also a socket for connecting a remote temperature sensor, which can be attached directly to the battery to measure the battery temperature more precisely and optimise the charging process. Charge controller specifications:
The controller comes with a detailed user manual which explains wiring and operations. Additional Items The kit includes 5m positive and negative 4.0mm solar extension leads for connecting the solar panels to the solar charge controller, and a 5m 4.0mm dual core battery cable for use between the solar charge controller and your battery, making the total cable length between the solar panel and the battery 0.9m + 5m + 5m = 11m.
