Roar Ege Viking Longboat - 569mm 1:25 Billing Boats Wooden Ship Kit B703
This Viking ship, dating from about 1000 A.D. was found in 1957 in the bay at Roskilde in Denmark along with four other ships. They had all been filled with stones and sunk in order to prevent enemy fleets from approaching the royal city of Roskilde.
The wreck was salvaged in 1962, and after a thorough preservation it was possible to carry out a reconstruction of the vessel. A reconstruction of Roar Ege was built of oak at the museum boatyard in 1982-84. The hull of Roar Ege was built using the technology of the Vikings, i.e. completely without the use of saws of any kind. Research into the traces left by tools in the original wood confirmed that the most important tool for cleaving tree trunks, and hewing planks and all other ship's parts, was the axe. Today the ship is on display at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde and is frequently sailed giving boat tours.
The "Roar Ege", also known as the "Skuldelev 3", is an exact scale replica. It was a small but well-built merchant vessel of some 14 metres in length built around the year 1000.
The Billing Boats kit includes laser cut wooden hull and wooden strips, fittings set, rigging thread, plan and manual.

PAYMENT
Payment must be made within 3 days of purchase. We accept Paypal payment or you can telephone us if you wish to pay by credit or debit card using our secure online terminal.
We do not accept cheques or postal orders.
DELIVERY
Times specified for delivery are from date of despatch and not date of order.
Free delivery and any other optional shipping costs are only for the UK mainland excluding Northern Ireland, the islands and parts of the Scottish highlands. For delivery to these areas outside the UK mainland please contact us for a quote prior to making a purchase. For express delivery services, orders and payment must be received by 1 p.m. Next Day delivery excludes weekends and public holidays unless it is actually offered by a specific delivery option.
Same day despatch is not guaranteed although we aim to despatch orders within 24 hours, excluding weekends and public holidays.
