The original xenon bulb in my Ryobi P704 flashlight broke when I accidentally elbowed the flashlight while working under a sink. I had no idea the original xenon bulb was so fragile. Adding insult to injury, I found the running time on a full battery was less than 2 hours!
I originally bought a 1W LED replacement. It was OK. Lower light output, but the flashlight stayed cool during operation and never seemed to run out of power. If you put your hand up to the glass of the xenon flashlight, you'll notice the glass get uncomfortably warm very quickly. Putting your hand up to the LED replacement, there is no noticeable warmth.
I then found the 3W LED. This 3W LED replacement has higher light output than 1W, with no noticeable warming of the flashlight due to wasted energy.
In my opinion, this 3W LED replacement is close to the light output of the original xenon. The shape of the light is different in that there is less spill than xenon, so it's more like a spotlight. Check out the pictures.
In my opinion, improved run-time, durability, and efficiency make the 3W LED superior to the xenon. That xenon bulb seemed really fragile.
