DC Vintage Watches presents for bid a unique pre-loved, nearly all-original vintage 23-jewel 1970s silver flyback Citizen 8110 automatic chronograph, presented on a Clockwork Synergy nylon over/under strap, which keeps accurate time for a vintage watch. Uniquely, this bullhead can also be wound manually!
Citizen launched the vertical-clutch column wheel 8110 chronograph in 1972, and its compact movement has a high beat, running at 28,800 beats per hour. They are well designed, featuring hand winding and "fly back?," which allows the wearer to zero the chronograph whilst it's running, rather than having to stop it first, then restart. This permits an instant stop and re-start of the chronograph function. The compact design of the movement allowed smaller casing, so the 8110 tends to be lighter than, for example, the Seiko 6139 (which did not have a flyback feature) chronographs of the period.
The start and stop of the chronograph is by pressing the button positioned at the 11 o'clock position and is reset by pressing the button at 1 o'clock. Pressing the reset button without first stopping the chronograph enables instant restart from zero. All models have the column wheel/vertical clutch design. These movements have quick setting mechanisms for date and day. Both are set when the crown is pulled out one click, the date by rotating the crown, the day by pressing the reset button. Compared to modern chronographs, the only chronographs in today's market with similar features and construction sell at a far higher price point, such as Blancpain, Vacheron Constantine, Patek, and Audemars. The 8110's are the least expensive, yet most sophisticated chronograph ever made! Citizen was established in 1918 and during its last nearly 100 years has expanded throughout the world and achieved recognition as the global brand.
As our name indicates, DC Vintage greatly respects classic manual movement timepieces - usually originating from the vintage or retro era spanning from the 1950's to 1990's - for the care taken during this period by Swiss, American, and Japanese companies to ensure owner?s of these timepieces had a keepsake worthy of lasting decades (and most likely longer) - all at an affordable price. We aim to bring these beautiful and interesting watches, the type people will undoubtedly notice on your wrist, to auction winners every week! You won't find anything boring here at DC Vintage Watches - just our unique selection of curated vintage and retro wristwatches!
DCVW has shunned quartz since our inception in 2012, and will continue to solely auction quality manual movements, with an eye to outstanding workmanship!
