The History
This
beautiful piece comes from the Art Deco Era! The Art Deco Era is famous for
being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" Era. A lot of
gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period.
During
the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would
often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
Taxco
is the location of many silver mines that have been around since the time of
conquistadors. During the 1920's Taxco artisans banded together to start
creating silver jewelry, since then Taxco jewelry has been considered among
some of the finest craftsmanship in silver jewelry in the world.
Etruscan
Revival Jewelry was known for the clean and elegant simplicity of ancient Greek
and Roman design and detailed by granulation and scrolled wire work. Master
Italian goldsmiths, such as Castellani, were famous for their work in this
style. Other Etruscan Revival pieces, include cameos of carved lava, hardstone
or shell, in yellow gold, which were detailed with scenes from classic
mythology or jewelry created in micro-mosaic and pietra dura. Gods and
goddesses, nymphs and warriors, were all prevalent as well as motifs consisting
of grapes, vines, swags and garlands.
Persian
Turquoise is a highly coveted and rare type of turquoise. It has been mined for
thousands of years in Modern Day Iran. The most coveted type of Persian
Turquoise is a solid bright blue hue that is very difficult to find. Antique
Persian Turquoise would of been very hard to come by, it would of been shipped
across the ocean, and this carried a hefty price tag.
Petit
Point is a style of stone cutting widely attributed to the Zuni Native American
Tribe. It involved cut small tear drop looking stones facing the same
direction. It is a very difficult way to cut a stone and looks beautiful in
silver jewelry.
The bracelet is signed GGV as well as with Taxco eagle #2.
The Piece
The bracelet features 6 petit point hand cabochon cut Persian Turquoise stones throughout each of the domed sections of the bracelet.
The bracelet features classic handmade art deco designs including beautiful Etruscan inspired granulated bead patterns across 6 domed hand hammered links within the bracelet as well as spacer links in between each domed portion.
The intricacy of the bracelet is just simply amazing, and would have taken days to craft completely by hand.
The bracelet measures 7.5" by just over 1/2". The bracelet also includes a secure slide on and off clasp.
Antique and Vintage jewelry is disappearing at alarming rates. Unfortunately, most of the jewelry from this time period has been lost or melted down over the years, please don't miss your chance to own this special piece of history!
