This is a very unusual, one of a kind pottery lamp portraying 2 medusa heads.
I did lots of research and could not find another one like it, with an exception of one similar lamp for sale by an upscale gallery.
The lamp appears to be sculpted by a studio artist, very skilled in ceramic. There is a mark, or signature, on the bottom, but it is illegible.

In Greek mythology Medusa  (guardian) was a monster described as a winged human female with a hideous face and snakes in place of hair. The unfortunates, who would gaze on her face, would turn to stone. Well, these medusae are definitely not monsters!Their faces are quite serene and have dreaming expressions.

The surface of the lamp is glazed, except for the medusae's faces and the base of the lamp. The glaze is basically grayish green in color with splashes of other earth tone colors, such as browns, beige and greens. The irregular coloring is part of this piece and is most likely result of the firing process.

The lamp works, but we strongly advise the buyer to have it rewired. The light bulb and the shade are not included.

There is no visible damage, cracking, or chipping. The faces are unglazed and have areas of darker coloration on protruding surfaces, such as their noses. This is most likely due to age related wear.
The lamp measures about 15" from the base to the top of the ceramic part and about 24" in circumference in the widest part. It weights 12 lbs. and 7.2 oz. The lamp is in a very good condition.

Please keep in mind that this item will have to be very carefully prepared for shipping. We will have to use a much larger box to accommodate for sufficient cushioning.

This is truly a very unique, whimsical lamp and I hope it will find a great home with someone who will appreciate it's beauty.

Thank you for looking!
