This 2016-W 30th Anniversary Burnished Silver Eagle is part of an issue that marks this important anniversary for its American bullion counterpart. It was struck from .999 fine silver at the West Point Mint, which is represented by a "W" Mint mark on the reverse.
This coin's obverse image was designed by Adolph Weinman for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. It features Liberty, an allegorical figure who represents the United States, carrying laurel and oak branches as she strides toward the left side of the design. A portion of the flag in which she is draped waved behind her right hand, which she extends in front of her to present the morning sunrise.
John Mercanti designed the reverse of the coin using the Great Seal of the United States as a model. At the top is a triangular arrangement of thirteen stars, a reference to the original states. Under them is an eagle protecting a union shield as it clutches symbols of military readiness, arrows, and a preference for peace, an olive branch.
The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded this piece a grade of Mint State 70, which means that it appears perfect even as viewed under magnification. They also certified that this piece was released on the first day that the coin was issued.
