Harvest Box with Glass 1948-1950

Relatively scarce circa 1948-1950 vintage Wendell August Forge glass box with hand-hammered aluminum lid featuring the Harvest repoussé motif from an older die. The overall maximum dimensions of the box are about 3-7/8” by 5” and 2” high. The lid is marked with Style Number 915 and a Wendell August Forge trademark handstamp. This item was marketed as a cigarette box and as part of a desk set.

I have several aluminum pieces from the same collector, with more to come, from an extensive collection that includes quality vintage work by Wendell August, Palmer-Smith, Town, James Deponceau, Arthur Armour, Laird, Cellini-Craft, Sheasley, Rossi, Uber and many others.  Also represented is work by New England artisans (e.g., Whitney and Kimball) as well as 1930s handmade and later uncommon items from Buenilum, Everlast and Continental. The majority are all in fabulous condition.

History: Wendell August Forge is America’s oldest and largest forge, producing hand-wrought ornamental metalware and elegant giftware in aluminum and other metals since 1923. The company was founded in Brockway, Pennsylvania. In 1930, a commission to create decorative aluminum gates and elevator doors for the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) led to a focus in the production of hammered aluminum giftware. The historic facility was destroyed by fire in 2010 but the company is still “forging” on.

Interesting Tidbit: Wendell August Forge ashtrays were used on the Hindenburg.

Descriptions reflect an honest evaluation of the item’s condition and I try to provide several photos, so items are purchased AS IS and I would rather not accept returns or give refunds unless I have made an error. On clothing, please read measurements, not just the tag size. If I have forgotten a measurement, please ask. I do not refund for item not fitting or changing your mind, only for any gross misrepresentation. Also no refunds if something is described as off-white and you consider it eggshell. NWT might mean a partial tag, content tag or button envelope but it means the item is unworn.

I leave my buyers feedback immediately upon payment, as you have thus fulfilled your side of the contract. Please let me know any concerns you may have before leaving me less than 5-star feedback.

International Buyers – Please note that your country may levy import or customs charges that are your responsibility – these are not additional shipping costs! I cannot mark items as gifts or below their value – the government frowns on this behavior. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. If the auction tells you shipping cannot be calculated, then it is likely the box exceeds postal limits to your country.

Payment due within 5 days. Exceptions are made if I am informed ahead of time.

There are many expenses involved in shipping your product safely including padded mailers, bubble wrap, peanuts, tape, FRAGILE stickers, and in most cases insurance. Understand that shipping costs may reflect a charge for these items. It is also sometimes difficult to estimate shipping costs before the item is actually packaged up. If you feel you have been overcharged, please contact me before leaving negative feedback. If there is a large discrepancy, I will make an adjustment, often before you ask!

Packages are now shipped by size, weight and ZONE, packages over 12” on any side may now be considered oversized by USPS and have a surcharge. I have no control over this. I try to keep the cost of shipping as low as possible. Please note that first class mail applies only to packages under 1 pound.

On most items there will be a tracking number. Lastly, I always ship same or next day unless I tell you otherwise, so any delays in receiving your item are not mine...

RETURNS: You MUST contact me before returning an item sent via UPS, as it is not necessary in most cases and in fact may invalidate any claim.
