NIKON NIKKOR 85mm 1.8 - 1972 - EXCELLENT!

A rare AI converted example of this all time classic fast portrait lens from the golden age of Nikon, irresistible!

There's something about Nikon equipment, you pick it up and you're instantly aware of the seminal images of our lifetime,captured by this wonderful, cherished equipment. Never is this more apparent than when looking at a Pro level period piece of kit such as this.

A Nikon 85mm f1.8 lens. Produced for just two years in this variant, the serial number dates this example to 1972, right at the peak of Nikon's supremacy. Contemporary to the seminal Nikon F and F2 SLR bodies, this lovely lens has been properly converted with the correct Nikon kit to Ai F Mount, so is compatible with all Nikon SLRs made since 1959 and the ideal companion to any of the excellent Nikon 35mm and digital bodies currently for sale in my OTHER AUCTIONS It will also happily work with all current Nikon DSLRs. I have had great fun testing it mounted on a D7000, which offers all metering options with this lens. With adapters, I have tested identical lenses with great success on my previous Canon DSLRs and Panasonic and Olympus bodies, adapters can also be easily obtained for the Full Frame Sony A7/A7r, Sony NEX and Samsung NX systems.

This particular lens is in excellent condition. In use, it feels both hefty and tight, the build quality is simply stellar. The lens feels tightly built and confident in the hand, with focus and aperture rings moving as confidently as you would hope.

The vast, wide open glass is perfectly clear, with no marks of any kind at all, while the focus and aperture rings move every bit as smoothly as you would hope. That massive optic has a gorgeous magenta coloured multicoating which shimmers in the light like a jewel. Despite the best efforts of the last 43 years, there is just a single mote of dust visible when held up to daylight. There is obviously no sign at all of any oil or fungus.

The lens will be supplied with as pictured, with Nikon caps, ready for you to get to work immediately!
