Victorian Gold Memorial 9ct Gold Sardonyx Cameo Demi Parure - Brooch & Earrings c1875
This is stunning Victorian 9ct Gold Memorial Demi Parure dating to c1875, which consists of a beautifully crafted Brooch & Earrings set with Sardonyx Floral Cameos (please see the detailed close-up photographs provided, which form an
integral part of the item's description).
This wonderful Brooch & Earrings have been fashioned in Gold and set with grey/black Sardonyx Cameos of navette form with a floral motif. The Brooch has a glazed panel verso, which is complete with its original bevelled glass and contains a woven hairwork memento, as shown. Typical of the period this fine quality Demi Parure is unmarked, but it has been tested and is guaranteed to be made from 9ct Gold.
The stunning Brooch, which weighs 11.2 grams and measures approx' 3.9cms long by approx' 3.1cms high, is made up of a central lozenge shaped Cameo surrounded by a further six smaller Cameos of similar shape with two distinct floral motifs. While the earrings, which weigh 1.8 grams for the pair, hang on their original Gold hook fittings for pierced ears and have a drop of approx' 2.8cms, while the Sardonyx Cameo set into each Earring measures approx' 16.0mm long by approx' 5.5mm wide.
Overall this fabulous Victorian Demi Parure is in great condition with only wear appropriate to age age, as shown; on close inspection there is a dot of solder visible on the reverse of one of the Brooch (which is barely noticeable and more mentioning for descriptive completeness). Commensurate with age & use the Earrings have a few shallow dings on the reverse, as shown, which won't be noticed when worn.
