Before we go on.  Mine are not the cheapest you will find on eBay.  I believe my Kodi software build is second to none and unlike a lot of companies in the UK, even some of the very largest, I pay UK taxes and VAT on my sales, thus contributing in my own small way to the wealth of the nation.  Some (many) don't bother, happy to nip down to Currys and pick up a couple of APPLE TVs, load a Kodi wizard in a few minutes and bung them on eBay for a quick profit and no questions asked. The Apple TV One now runs on OPENELEC LINUX - faster than an Apple TV2, and cheaper too.  It also features a 40GB hard drive installed so you can store your songs, media files and photos.. play them on the Apple TV.

Running OPENELEC LINUX instead of the old Apple firmware you can play any media file up to 1080p with the installation of the Broadcom HD GPU card (don't worry I can install it for you and you don't have to have one, it's just a bonus)..

The Apple TV1 will come with everything pre-inatalled by me, you just need to plug it in and connect to your router using wifi OR an ethernet cable.

Some sellers make a big hoo-har about their ATVs being exclusive, different, better, having more addons, but it's all hot air.

It's configured just the same, with all the available add-ons properly and fully installed.. 

I use the TVaddons Wizard too, it's not exclusive, but you have to install some elements of the rival XUnity Wizard or you don't get some other inter interesting add-ons.

I developed my own build, I don't use flashy sounding wizards because the addons are the same you get with mine and the extra graphics used by wizards just slow sown the box and use memory unnecessarily.

Kodi 15.2 Isengard loaded with every useful add-on available.  There's nothing you have to install to make it work.

The Android "Apple TV Killer"

I'm sometimes asked why I continue with Apple TVs when Android boxes are cheaper and run XBMC same as an Apple TV.

About three months ago I looked at a range of these Android boxes with a view to selling the best I could find. One that claimed 1080p playback and full hardware acceleration managed three frames per second at 1080p, so technically the claim was true but in the real world... none of the ones I bought managed to run XBMC under Android with any reliability.

Others utilise XBMC under Linux doing away with the Android operating system.  This is becoming more successful but XBMC crashes, a lot, and with an Apple TV you just press menu and down arrow to restart the box, what with an Android box?  With the ones I had you have to completely unplug it and reboot.

So, software-wise, none of them were anywhere near good enough for me to consider stocking them. 

I still have 6 different Android boxes in my office, in a pile, (all of the ones that are being advertised on here as "Apple TV Killers") and the combined weight of all them together doesn't amount to the weight one one Apple TV2.

Last week I tested one of the very latest quad core, Quad Graphics GPU Android players.  You have to load a separate media player because neither the box, nor XBMC has a suitable vidoeo hardware acceleration built in. That's awful.

Now you can have the best of both worlds - a cheaper, stable, well-built Apple TV that runs all the latest XBMC sofware for the same price as a plasticky Android player.

Buy cheap buy twice, as the saying goes.
