Third Reich RM100 Prussian State Loan
Series 1937 4 1/2% Bond

Prussian State Bond 1937

A superb example of a Prussian State loan bond for 100 Reichsmark from the Third Reich era. Lithograph by the State Printing Office in Berlin in brown, black, blues and reds. Measures approx. 8.25"x11.25"

On these bonds the Nazi era Reichsadler seal of the Prussian State Debt Administration has not been cancelled, as shown in the example image. Cancel errors while not exceedingly great rarities, are still limited, as the German government has been generally attentive to voiding Third Reich swastika seals.

Authentic historical artifacts documenting turbulent times. The last 270 remaining examples of these canceled VF+ certificates from the vaults of the former Reichsbank in Berlin were auctioned off by the German Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (BADV) in 2015. In the sales literature, it was revealed that the auction would be the BADV’s final sale of pre-1945 German government bonds.

Appealing to scripophily collectors, history buffs and educators alike, they make interesting additions to Second World War collections. Certificate numbers will vary, but the Quality will not!

Thumbnail History...

Once the largest kingdom in the German Empire, following WWI and the Revolution, Prussia became the largest of the Federal States of the Weimar Republic. Although the revolution had stripped away many of the powers formerly reserved to the states under the Empire, they retained much of their domestic political autonomy under the new Republic.

Following the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship, in March and April 1933 state governments were abolished, with most of their functions passing to the Reich. Instead of having an elected local Diet and Minister President, the states were henceforth governed by an appointee from Berlin. However, in the case of Prussia, it alone among the states retained most of the trappings of its independent existence - albeit with a thoroughly Nazified government at the helm. Its Minister President was the portly Reichsmarschall Hermann Goring.

After WWII, the state of Prussia was consigned to the dust heap of history, absorbed as it was, into the Soviet Union, Poland, the German Democratic Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany.
