Marklin #45293 Mercedes W196 R Maxi Racer wind up "clockwork"  race car. Approx 1:18 scale with 2 original boxes and key the model is 12 inches long and was manufactured in 1994. Impressive high gloss nickel plated version, Marklin is well known for its high quality train sets.  The outside box shows a little light wear. A great rare addition to any collection. The actual famous race car that inspired this car made its racing debut at the French Grand Prix on July 4, 1954.  It featured full fuel injection, desmondronic valving, independent torsion bar suspension, and 4 wheel air cooled brakes mounted in side the body.  It had 290 HP in 152 cubic inches and weighed 1455. pounds. The 5 speed transmission was synchronized with 1 reverse gear.  The race car was retired in 1955 after winning 10 of the 13 Grand Prix events and the Grand Prix World Championship.   The actual race car driven by Juan Fangio was painted silver and was nick named the "Silver Arrow"and recently sold at auction for an all time record 29.6 Million US dollars.  The model is an all metal nickel plated body and is in excellent condition.
