There's something about Nikon equipment, you pick it up and you're instantly aware of the seminal images of our lifetime,captured by this wonderful, cherished equipment. Never is this more apparent than when looking at a Pro level, period piece of kit such as this.
An excellent AI 105mm 2.5 Nikkor lens. The serial number dates it squarely to 1980, fairly late in the AI era. This lovely lens has the AI version of the F Mount, so is compatible with absolutely every Nikon SLR and DSLR made since 1959 and the ideal companion to any of the Nikon bodies for sale in my OTHER AUCTIONS It will even any fit current Nikon DSLR, right up to the brand new DF! I have been trialling it on my D7000 with all the modern refinements of Matrix metering and focus confirmation, and with an adapter, it will be just as capable on either a Canon DSLR or Micro Four thirds, Sony NEX or the fabulous Full frame Sony A7 or A7 II.
Traditionally, the 105mm is regarded as a portrait lens, but as with all the best Nikkors, it lends itself to much, much more, its compact length, wide aperture and long reach make it the ideal partner for many kinds of photography, from a simple portrait to grabbing those illusive middle distance candids in the street!
This particular example is in simply exceptional condition, having obviously been very carefully looked after throughout its long life. The vast, wide open glass is unblemished, with no marks of any kind. There is just a single mote of dust that I can make out holding it up to the light. The barrel is in similarly excellent condition, with no marks at all to give away the passage of the past 37 years. In use, this vintage lens feels excellent, it is hefty, tight and confident. The focus and aperture rings move as smoothly as you would hope from a Nikkor lens, while the optic bears that gorgeous multi coloured coating which shimmers in the light. There is obviously no sign of oil or fungus at all.
