The 23nd International 500 mile Sweepstakes race on May 30, 1934. The race was won by Kelly Patillo at an average speed of 106.240. and won $33,000. Rex Mays led most of the first 300 miles.1935 was one of the most deadly in the history of the speedway. 3 competitors were killed before the race during practice and qualifying. This led to new rules requiring a drivers test and better helmets. Six drivers were killed in the race. Great vintage ads.
