This is a fairly common Queen Victoria SCIENCE AND ART DEPARTMENT bronze medal made by W. WYON . RA. in its original black leather embossed lid medal case.
The medal is in good condition due to it being in the case..rear says NATIONAL MEDAL FOR SUCCESS IN ART AWARDED BY THE SCIENCE AND ART DEPARTMENT.
The medal has edge engraving too as usual to the named person getting the medal and the year.
HILDA MARY PEMBERTON, SUBJECT 8b2. 1895.
It is not until you look into the named person that you find any info about them.
This lady Hilda Mary Pemberton is a well known famous artist and her paintings and sketches can be seen on all the websites.
The medal is 35mm dia x 4mm deep plain edge... the box is a little tatty and stained with scuffed corners ....the lid catch does not work as well as it should and the lid is a little loose... but has kept the all important medal in great condition.
Check this website out which makes good reading..it mentions she was awarded with Silver & Bronze medals from the Royal College of Art.... this is ONE of those medals... ..just copy and paste this to your browser........
