Classic Audio Products Inc. has been sweeping the nation with their affordable yet killer sounding replicas of API's signature "LA sound" preamplifiers and signal processors. These tools can help you reach that professional sound while only paying intro-level prices.

Imagine an API console's channel strip from the 70's: cram the input circuitry, an abbreviated version of the filter section, and fader circuitry into the size of a paperback book.
BAM! You've got the VP28.

The VP28 is CAPI's only DIY dual stage mic pre. The input stage can provide up to 60dB up front while the final "fader" section can add an additional 12. 72dB of total gain is an insensitive mic user's best friend. Do you use SM7s and ribbon mics? This could be the easy, affordable answer to bring out the best in your quiet sources.

This pre runs the gamut from clean to crunchy. Two stepped gain knobs, two op amps, two output transformers, and a 20dB pad give you truly acrobatic gain staging versatility when dialing in the right amount of saturation for each source.

The first run of VP28s only featured Ed Anderson's rendition of the classic 2623 output transformer. Now Jeff is offering a new option: the classic output transformers wound with Litz wire Litz wire is made up of multiple smaller strands, electrically isolated from each other and twisted together to make a single wire. Considered to be the "preferred" version of this classic transformer.

Already got some recorded instruments or mixes that you want to add a little bit of that API console notoriety? Flip out of Mic and you're in Line mode.
Line mode changes the input impedance to 10 kilo-ohms and drops the signal by 35 dB, allowing the unit to properly load the high resistance of a line output device. Output your mix buss into a pair of these, send the affected signals back into your DAW, and you'll have an extra degree of sexy analog iron mojo injected into your mixes.

The high pass filter section lets you cut out any unwanted low end rumble or mud at three different frequencies. 40, 80, and 160 Hz. You can filter at -6dB/octave or -12dB/oct by flipping the toggle switch.

Got a loud tube amp and find yourself only turning down the pre? The 20dB pad will help tame those hot signals in order to help you find the sweet spot.

Make troubleshooting easier when you make sure that your unit is getting signal with a little help from the green "signal present" LED. The signal shown is taken right after the first output transformer and is affected by the input gain knob.

If you record the same instruments on a regular basis then you don't have any worries because both knobs are stepped. Once you find the settings that you like on a source then you'll be able to recall them exactly every time.

Yes it has phantom power and a phase invert button. I was hoping that you would be able to pick that fact up from the pictures :P
