There's something about Nikon equipment, you pick it up and you're instantly aware of the seminal images of our lifetime,captured by this wonderful, cherished equipment. Never is this more apparent than when looking at a piece of kit such as this.
An incredibly clean and very rare Nikkor 50mm f1.8 Pancake lens, Please note, this is the Japan only version, which has a closest focussing distance of 0.45m, NOT the much more common International version, which focuses to 0.6m. Renowned as one of Nikon's hidden gems, this is Nikkor's first AIS lens, made for just two years from 1980-82. Its performance is even and sharp throughout the aperture range and as a result, this unassuming and compact 1.8 is used by many photographers in preference to the faster Nikkor 1.4. It really is important to realize that this is the Japan Only version and is rarely seen outside Japan even today.
Contemporary to the seminal Nikon F3/4/5 SLRs. This lovely lens measures just a smidgen over one inch deep and is based on the Ai-S version of the F Mount, so is fully compatible with any Nikon SLR or DSLR made since 1977 and the ideal companion to Many of the excellent Nikon bodies for sale in my OTHER AUCTIONS It will even fit all the the newest Nikon DSLRs right up to the fabulous new Df! I have used one to great effect on my D7000 complete with full matrix metering. It can be mounted with adapters on both the Canon EOS, film and digital, Sony NEX, Sony A7 and A7r, Samsung NX and Micro four thirds bodies, such as the Panasonic G and Olympus PEN series, as well as the fabulous new full frame Sony A7 range.
This particular lens is in stunning condition, having been very carefully looked after. In use, it is nicely tight and confident. The wide open glass is perfectly clear, as you can hopefully see in the pictures, without any marks at all. Internal optics are similarly clear, with no sign of any dust at all. Both focus and aperture rings move as smoothly as you would hope from a Nikon lens, indeed, focus can be achieved with a single finger. The barrel cosmetics are simply excellent. Numerals and script are as clear as the day they were printed. There is no sign of fungus or oil at all.

I have had a fair bit of experience with my own 50/1.8 pancake and can vouch personally for its suitability as an all round lens, it is fast, sharp and it's pancake profile means that it is never obtrusive. This closer focussing version only promises to be more so. Even if you have a fast 50 already, you should consider finding room for this unique Nikon lens, it could make your summer!
