DC Vintage Watches is pleased to offer for
bid this vintage early 1983 Seiko 7009-8860 World Time automatic watch, presented
with a new nylon Clockwork Synergy strap, which keeps accurate time
for a vintage watch.
It is not always obvious why some of the complications find their way
onto the mechanical wristwatch might be viewed as particularly
indispensable, but for the international traveller, corporate executive, news, finance or
communications personnel of
the 1980’s – or today – a watch with a
24 hour function must have carried a certain useful appeal. Even in the era of the smart
phone, there is a certain something about a watch that keeps time in different cites and tiem zones, which pushes the right
buttons. The earliest implementation of a 24 function in a
Seiko wrist watch was the 6217-7000 World Timer which featured an inner
rotating city bezel which allowed you to reference your current time zone with
those in other parts of the world – much like this 7009 World Timer does!

this vintage Seiko buyer’s guide, offered by Hodinkee, can be found here.
From humble beginnings Seiko was founded in
1881, when Kintarō Hattori’s vision led him to open a watch shop in Tokyo,
Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, Hattori began to produce clocks under
the name Seikosha, translated
roughly as “House of Exquisite Workmanship.”
Indeed, as recently stated in
Hodinkee article, "Ten
Vintage Watches That Should Be More Expensive Than They Are, And Why"
- "In this list, we'll take you through ten watches that we think should
be selling for more money than they are, and we'll tell you why. Oh, and
there isn't a single Rolex on this list...What is there to say about
vintage Seiko besides 'great watches for the money?' Seiko has
been making mechanical watches since 1913, and Grand Seiko has been around
since 1961 - with a host of cool designs and interesting, even high-beat,
movements. But just because these guys hail from Japan and not
Switzerland is no reason to discount them. If you're looking for just a nice old watch, any vintage
mechanical Seiko will do." DC
Vintage Watches is happy to offer this Seiko World Timer as another example of
the fine workmanship and innovation that continues the Seiko tradition.
