The history of Longines started from the moment in 1832 when Auguste Agassiz came to the small town of Saint-Imier and got a job in a small shop «Comptoir horloger Raiguel Jeune», is engaged in the sale of spare parts for hours, and a year later, Auguste and his two partners Florian Morel and Henri Raigel founded his own trading post called «Comptoir Raiguel Jeune & Cie».
Once in 1838 by Henri Raigel retired, and in 1847 and Florian Morel followed suit, Auguste Agassiz became the autocratic owner of the trading post in 1862 and handed over all the works of his nephew Ernest Fransillonu.V while watchmaking were mainly at home by making parts and relating them to the customer. In 1866, Ernest Fransillon bought two plots of land on the outskirts of Saint-Imier on the right bank of the River Suze (a tributary of the River Aare) in a place called Les Longines (which in the local dialect means "long and narrow field"), where he built the first factory Longines, the construction of which brought together all working under one roof.
In 1867 came the first mechanism of Longines, was named caliber L20A. Watch while doing the plant from the key, and Longines first to break this tradition by creating a mechanism for translating the shooter and the plant which was carried out by means of the crown. In the same year Ernest personally presented the new watch at the World Exhibition in Paris and received a bronze medal for them.
