The Eddie Mathews plastic blister is in perfect condition and the card is clean except for four minor wrinkles: two on the front and two on the back. Three of the four wrinkles occurred during construction. There is very minor corner wear and the staples are original and in pristine condition.
Perhaps the finest condition specimen that exists and possibly one-of-a-kind in this form since the vast majority of statues were sold as an entire league (i.e., National or American) in a large box rather than in individual packages like this. One of the key stars in the series! One of the rarest and most difficult-to-find-intact statue and card collectibles of the 1950s. The bronze statue is 2.75 inches high, 1.75 inches wide, and 1 inch deep. The 4 inch by 5 inch card is a folded, two-piece construction and double-sided. The front contains action shots, the player's name, the team, the series, the original retail price, and a factory hole at the top in order to hang the item in a store display. The reverse features biographical information, a bust of the player, a facsimile autograph, 1955 statistics, and product information. The pull-out display-stand tab on the reverse is still intact. |
