Q1: What should I look for when buying a water distiller?

A: You should look for:

- detailed warranty policy, including: are all parts & labour throughout the warranty period?

- detailed return/repair policy, including: who pays for the shipping?

- non-flammable distiller body

- USA/Canada electrical safety approvals

- availability of repair parts

Q2: Are other prong types and voltages available? A: Three voltages are available: 120V, 230V & 240V.  As for prong thypes, we have Canada/USA prong, European prong, UK prong, and Australia/New Zealand prong adapter.

Q3: Do you have Model SBS (stainless steel exterior, black top)? (Ignore Q.3 if the listing is already for Model SBS) A: Yes, look for it in our other listings. 

Q4: How does this distiller compare to so-called "higher-speed" models? A: If you read the feedback by buyers, the other 895W model (54% higher wattage) is actually quite noisy, and takes closer to 4 to 4 1/2 hours (not 3 hours as claimed) to produce one gallon of distilled water (Check out the other seller's feedback given by their buyers on Feb 18, Dec 10 and 24, 2007, Apr 7 2009) - That means higher energy wastage. Even assuming that the 895W model takes 3.5 hours and not 4 hours for one cycle, its energy efficiency is only 3.13kwh per US gal (0.83kwh per L) compared to our slower model which is 2.90kwh per US gal (0.77kwh per L). There are also un-truths given by the other seller: higher wattage does not kill more germs (we all know water boils at the same boiling point regardless of the wattage) etc which you will notice if you think carefully enough.

Q5: What is a "temperature-controlled" water distiller that's on the market? A: This so-called temperature-controlled distiller is actually no use as a water distiller. It is a sleazy (and likely illegal) way of selling an alcohol distiller (normally selling for about $200), which can only be sold by government-licensed vendors. Alcohol distillation in the home is dangerous (because alcohol fumes are highly flammable), and is illegal in many countries.

Q6: Does your water distiller remove fluoride? A: Yes - Distillation heats water until it turns to steam. The steam travels through a condenser coil where it is cooled and returned to liquid. The F- remains in the boiler section. Generally, distillation for F- removal is considered a POU process. Contact us if you need further detailed scientific info.

Q8: Will the distiller rubber gaskets need frequent replacement? A: No. The gaskets are made to last years without the need for changing. We've never had any requests for replacements in the past. We are offering a 10-year warranty on all distiller gaskets (with free shipping) to show our confidence in the gaskets' reliability. Print a copy of this listing description as proof of your warranty. Please note that, when cleaning your distiller, the rubber gasket must not be moved and should be positioned correctly, otherwise steam will escape from the gap into the air in the room and you may think that the distiller is faulty.

Q9: Does your warranty cover electrical parts as well? A: Our warranty (if applicable to this listing) covers all parts including electrical parts (Beware: Some other distiller models sold by other sellers offer 30 days only for electrical parts). Most parts are modular and easily replaceable, and do not require in-shop servicing.

Q10: Do you have a glass storage bottle version? (Ignore this question if the listing is already for a model with glass bottle) A: Yes! A very elegant glass bottle with an ergonomic handle is available. Glass is no doubt the best container for distilled water. However, the glass bottle is available only with Model SBS-GBOT (see our other listing). If you don't want to buy the more expensive glass bottle model, you may simply transfer the water immediately after the distillation cycle from the plastic collector bottle to a glass jug (with a cover) and store it in a fridge.

Q11: Do I need to clean the boiling chamber after every cycle? A: The boiling chamber does not need cleaning every time - It needs some light rinsing every few cycles (which is very easy to do), and needs a more thorough cleanout only when there is significant buildup of scale or other impurities.

Q12: Where are your distillers made in? A: They're made by MegaHome Corporation in Taiwan (www.megahome.com.tw), one of the largest water distiller manufacturers in the world. Other eBay selller's distillers may be made by some unknown factory in China even though they may be misleadingly branded as "American".

Q13: Where can I get extra carbon filters and distiller cleaner for the distiller? From us of course - Take note of our email address for future ordering. We sell internationally and have been in business since 1996.

Q14: I'm Canadian, do I need to pay extra in GST/PST/HST? A: There are no extras in taxes - All taxes and insurance are absorbed in the shipping fee if delivered anywhere in Canada.

Q15: Why is your shipping to Canada as expensive as shipping to the USA? A: For Canadians, we absorb the following in the shipping fee: Bulk shipping from the USA to Canada; all applicable sales taxes (GST/PST/HST), import duty (2.5%), shipping insurance, and customs brokerage charges.

Q16: Do you allow local pick up? A: Local pick up is not allowed, as we need to assign a staff member to wait in-store (which is a very expensive arrangement), especially when a buyer arrives late, or simply doesn't show up and asks for re-scheduling.

Q17: Consumer education information: There is one eBay seller criticizing and disparaging other sellers of water distillers - Is it true what he is saying? A: There are truths, half-truths and untruths that he said (For instance, his distillers are branded as "American", but most models that he carried are not made in the USA). A: Some sellers may occasionally offer "promotional" prices, but price is not the most important consideration when purchasing a distiller. Problems don't develop until months or years later, and if that happens, you will need good warranty and/or quality after-sales service.
