ARTIST'S DESCRIPTION OF PAINTING:

This painting is 16" high and 14" across. (framed

I began a series of paintings in the year 2000.

It was part of a personal challenge to create a series of paintings showing my visual interpretation about some noteworthy lyrics of my favorite rock and roll icon (Bob Dylan).

Kata's ROCK and ROLL art website

I can gush on about Bob and his lyrical genius-

But it was the 'non-likeable' side of Bob that inspired this painting....

Having read Joan's autobiography, (and known people who knew Bob in the sixties) I have a hard time mustering up much respect for "that" Bob.

Make no mistake, I am a BIG FAN of Bob's work and I tend to believe that the present day Bob is probably a wonderful man...

But my work (rock and roll icon art) is all about shattering the facades and images of the rock icons.

I make up little scenarios from my imagination. None of them are malicious or crude- but funny, "quippish" or plain thought provoking.

This vignette shows Bob with a sleepy eyed boredom -

that and his his slumped shoulders express his body language toward Joan.

He is peering at Joan with a sideways look-

waiting to be served by her -

after all, Joan is a woman- and Gloria Steinem's writing was just catching on at the time

"We've begun to raise daughters more like sons... but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters."
Gloria Steinem

According to Joan's autobiography Bob used her place as a major crash pad in the sixties.

Bob holds his fork and napkin (loosely portrayed in a sketch like style)

he appears as an impatient little boy...

Joan (tired of being Bob's caretaker) begins to tilt the pan...

and let some noodles slide down on Bob (instead of his plate).

This piece is created in my most natural "sketchy" painting style- using black and white paint and mixing my own hundreds of varieties of gray...

Stylistically, it also has overtones of pop art, caricature and folk art in it.

The pot of noodles is out of proportion (way too small) as are other aspects of the piece...like Bob's feet.

Other works in my eBay gallery are either more realistic or more folk art in style.

This one straddles the middle ground.

I currently create three categories of work.

This listing is (category 2)

a REPLICA ORIGINAL of my work

size- 16" x 14" (framed)

1. PRIMARY ORIGINALS.

2. REPLICA ORIGINALS. These are entirely hand painted Versions of certain Primary Originals (which are similar but in no way identical to the Primary Original). Ethically, technically and in every way these paintings are also Original Paintings. In most cases the work is hand painted on a stretched canvas with fine acrylic paints. If the medium differs from this norm it will be easy for a potential collector to ascertain because I include a full technical description within every listing. This category was developed for a couple reasons. A. Collectors sometimes see a piece which has previously sold and want something very similar. B. I am sometimes inspired to re-work a particular image or theme.

3. VERSIONS OF WORK. These pieces are ethically technically legally (and in every way) Original Paintings. The demand for them arose when Patrons admired previously sold pieces and wanted something similar. They are much less expensive than my PRIMARY ORIGINALS or REPLICA ORIGINAL paintings. Often I spend a week or more working on each piece. They usually have the most unique frames of all my work which I embellish with hand made mattes and vintage objects de' art.

Please see the individual listings (look at the bottom of the listing) for complete TECHNICAL descriptions. And feel free to contact me with any questions.

NOTE: explanation for why I sometimes have listings which appear very similar.  A. the above three categories could be represented for a given piece of art at the same time. B. eBay allows a seller just two STORE CATEGORIES per listing... therefore, if a piece in my SORE is an ORIGINAL, in the POP ART STYLE but is also a BEATLES ART piece and is VERY LARGE- that is four potential categories which a Potential collector may search within and so I have created those categories (and more) within my eBay STORE. Since eBay only allows a seller TWO categories per piece, I will sometimes create a couple listings of the same piece so the person looking at my STORE can more easily scroll through my STORES CATEGORIES to find the type of work they seek.  C. In order to give certain pieces of my work more exposure to eBay's world wide market- I sometimes list the same painting in a few different eBay SEARCH BAR categories (for instance in Beatles Memorabilia and in Original Paintings by the Artist).
