From History, comes this EXTREMELY RARE find!!! An autographed letter from JOHN JACOB ASTOR!!!! John Jacob Astor (1864-1912). Great grandson of the original founder of family fortune. Fought in Spanish American War. Known to have been the Richest Man on board the TITANIC, he unfortunately lost his life while accompanying his new Bride back to New York. ALS, 5X7 personal stationery, 1879. Sending regrets that he cannot attend affair as he is going to Europe. Signed at conclusion J.J. Astor. We know its from 1879, as someone on the opposite side of the stationery wrote a date: May12/79 saying J.J. Astor Declines. Someone also wrote (in pencil) the selling price of the document and Lost on Titanic 1864-1912. I bought this signed letter in 1999.
