Here on offer is a rare antique
Victorian carved horn letter opener with an ebony hoof handle, dating to the
1860s.
This wonderful letter opener has been made using a slice of horn as the
blade and is set into a carved wooden ferule that is designed to mimic the
outer surface of an antler. It slots into a carved piece in cream and black that
inturn connects to a skin covered handle. The end of the handle is finished
with a delightfully carved ebony hoof shape. The horn blade has a series of minor
nibbles along one edge, but displays well. The damage is commensurate with the
age of the piece.
The letter opener is being offered in good used
antique condition, it measures about 18.3cm in length, 1.8cm wide and weighs 12g.
A rare collectable piece.
