Description
A fine looking Art Deco period Sterling silver compact. It looks like a radiator from a period car with its geometric forms and toned outer frame. The reverse has fine engine turning, a favourite decoration of this era. Internally there is a mirror, and the other side is just plain, there would perhaps have been a fabric mesh originally. There is a full length hinge, and it is a very well made example in heavy guage silver.
It is likely a French piece, and it has London import marks for 1937 and the importers mark for Hernu, Peron & Stockwell Ltd of Finsbury, London. Comes with the original soft leather case.
Condition
Minor wear and aging. Silvering to mirror back just starting to go a little. Small indent to case rear. No powder mesh internally. Leather case worn and ink stained.
