Buddha was responsible for delivering the knowledge of medicine to the people of the world. The right hand facing outward signifies "granting a boon" (meaning, giving a blessing) to mankind. The Buddha holds a lotus flower in the right hand and a bowl of herbs in the left. The Medicine Buddha is venerated by those seeking health. The Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. His earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings. He has a circular urna or third eye on his forehead. Sculpture is in excellent condition.
