Up for sale, a 1962 Silvertone model 1429 in exceptional, near mint condition and in good working order. Produced for Sears under their "Silvertone" brand by Harmony in the USA, this model is analogous to the H75-78 series of instruments which were the flagship guitars in the Harmony catalog. This particular example is 100% original and has been sparingly played over the past 50+ years.

This guitar features all maple, full hollowbody construction and a trio of DeArmond Gold Foil pickups with silver diamond covers. This Silvertone has a huge range of tones thanks to the three pickup design coupled with individual on/off toggle switches for each pickup. These pickups can deliver everything from spanky twang in the bridge position to warmer, mellow jazzy tones with only the neck pickup selected. There's a certain percussive cut, jangle, and surprising kick from an original DeArmond pickup, and these Silvertone foils really deliver the goods! Although the silver diamond pickup covers are one of the notable cosmetic features of this model, the pickup still falls within the "gold foil" family, having identical construction to its assembly line brothers with gold metal inserts. Acoustically, the guitar has a strident, percussive quality that translates well through the pickups for your daily dose of sparkle and twang. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 11-50 strings, this 1429 is a real stunner!

The neck has a medium C profile that has a surprising amount of chunk and roundness in the shoulders, which fills the palm comfortably for easy chording and clean lead lines. The original frets are intact and near mint, with virtually no wear and perfectly rounded crowns. The guitar plays cleanly all the way to the last fret with consistent, low action and no excessive buzzing or dead spots. On the headstock, the original Silvertone raised metal logo is intact and the stock open back Waverly tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The original nut is intact and at just shy of 1 3/4" there's plenty of space for accurate chording and fingerpicking.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with the expected Volume and Tone controls for each pickup paired with a three individual on/off toggle switches. All of the original hardware is present as well including the carved rosewood bridge with bone insert, perfectly clear mini DeArmond bell knobs, cream baton switch tips, and nitrate tortoise appointments.
All pickups retain their original "Rowe DeArmond" stickers on the bottom and all sport identical May 23rd, 1962 date codes. The trio of Brazilian rosewood pickup risers are intact too!

The original two-tone sunburst nitro lacquer finish is vibrant and unfaded, with a glossy sheen that highlights the subtle figuring on the curly maple body. There are a few tiny finish chips along the edges of the binding on the back and a couple finish scratches in the clear coat on the instrument as a whole, but overall this is a truly well cared for and near mint example. Other light wear of note includes moderate surface patina on the nickel trapeze tailpiece and a small chip in the baton switch tip for the neck pickup.
