Victorian Mourning Brooch
Featuring Two Angels and A Grave
'In Memory of My Dear Father'
I love mourning jewellery.
I love the artistry of it, the hidden meanings, and the lengths that the Victorians took every aspect of death, burial and mourning too.
This very touching example is made from yellow metal with a spiral twist border.
The face is decorated with coloured paint or enamel and features two beautiful angels leaning over a tomb.
Above them reads the text IN MEMORY OF (this is very worn)
and on the tomb itself... it rather touchingly reads...MY DEAR FATHER
There is no makers mark, but there is a patent number on the rear.
MEASUREMENTS
It is a very nice size piece measuring approximately 4cms long and 3.3cms wide
CONDITION
It is an antique piece and it does show its wear and tear. The top half is quite rubbed.
The pin is firmly attached and in good working order.
