A
rare, limited edition set of two reference books, one dealing with
Netsuke and the second dealing with Inro and smoker's accessories, by Alain Ducros. These
two works are based on the collection of Marco Tuturi - and what a
marvellous collection this is.
And who better to appraise
this collection that Alain Ducros - the idiosyncratic and outstanding
French expert in Japanese art . These two books deal with far
more than netsuke and inro - they deal with things social,
anthropological and superstitious over the past 200 years and more.
And as a commentator and analyst of Japanese society as presented
through its art, Alain Ducros has few peers.
It must also be
said that the photography - by Daniel Mille of Monaco - and Alain
Ducros himself - is extraordinary - tending towards the full page 360
degree study of its wonderfully conceived subjects.
