It is a mono recorder with built in amp and speaker. The interesting thing about it is that it records on BOTH SIDES OF THE TAPE AT ONCE. One side is used for the Teacher's voice and the other for the Student's voice. When you play it back, you can adjust the volume of each voice individually as they are recorded on 2 separate tracks. If you are playing back a conventionally recorded tape then you hear side 1 playing normally (in mono of course) through the "Teacher" channel. If you turn up the volume of the "Student" channel, you will hear side 2 of the tape playing in reverse! By keeping the volume of the "Student" channel at 0 you can listen to normal tapes on it.
It has a MEMORY function which stops the tape rewinding when it reaches 0 (or about 9 98 actually) on the counter. Useful for getting back to a set point on a tape.
Can be run from mains or 6 "C" type batteries.
It all seems to be working properly with no faults. The meter works in record mode.
