This auction is for an antique vintage set of Tom Stewart irons. Stewart was from St Andrews Scotland and his clubs are highly sought after for their playing characteristics.

Included in this 7 iron set with play specs (all dot face scoring) are a 1 Iron 38 3/4" 22* loft B 9 swingweight, Mid Iron 37 3/4", 26* C 6, Mashie Iron 37 1/2" 29* C 2, Mashie 36 1/2" 39* C 8, Spade Mashie 35 3/4" 41* C 1, Mashie Niblick 35 3/4" 43* C 8 and a Niblick 35 1/2" 54* E 1. The heads are all clean and not all rusted or pitted. They do have the expected play nicks and dings along with some discoloration. Please look at the zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. The shafts are all old hickories. All are straight except for the mashie which has a very minor bend you might not notice. I see no cracks in any of the shafts. If I work real hard at it I can make a couple of them move at the hosel. Keep in mind that all hickory shafts should be reset prior to play. The grips are all old long leather wraps that are in fair to good condition and match quite well. All of the clubs except for the mashie have a prior owners initials on them (F.D.M.). Not sure why the mashie does not have the same initials as it sure looks like it came with the set as the grips, shafts and head condition look almost identical. The swingweights on these clubs are actually quite good as they are generally shorter than most hickories, both old and the reworked ones. The rule of thumb is each 1" additional length on a club adds 6 swingweight points. You decide if the specs work for you as a play set.
